"True
Faces of the Lotus TreasuryˇX2007 Chung Tai Shan Buddhist Art Exhibition"
explores the relationship between Buddhist artifacts and contemporary
art and culture. Nearly eighty pieces of art are featured in this
exhibit, including sculptures of Buddhas, bodhisattvas, arhats and
heavenly kings, as well as steles and other Buddhist artifacts spanning
in date from the Han to the Qing dynasty. This special exhibition
of "Buddhist Sculptures and Steles" will present four
key themes to convey the Buddhist concept of the Four Immeasurable
Minds: kindness, compassion, joy and non-attachment. "Serene
BeautyˇXBuddhist Sculptures through the Ages" highlights the
quality of "kindness" seen on the faces of Buddhas and
bodhisattvas. "The BenefactorsˇXBuddhist Steles" shows
the great "compassion" of Buddhist benefactors present
throughout the ages. In the "Field of MeritˇXArhats" the
state of "joy" coming from a mind freed from all vexations
is illustrated in the images of the arhats. "Visages of Perfect
PeaceˇXHeads of Buddhas", through the remnant heads of ancient
Buddha statues, portrays the virtue of "non-attachment",
an important element in the practice of the Bodhisattva Way .
This
exhibition features 260 excellent works of bonsai from across Taiwan.
In addition to the rich variety of potted plants on display, visitors
are also invited to enjoy a pleasant walk around Deer Garden, Hua
Lin Garden or Bodhi Park, where delicately designed landscapes ensure
delight for both the eyes and the mind. Embraced in the arms of
nature, one may also experience a taste of exquisite horticultural
aesthetics.
